Application:
The Fibrelight Cradle is designed to be used by small rescue craft, rigid inflatables and ship's lifeboats. The inboard end is secured to the craft and the outboard end is held outwards by hand, boat hook or bridle depending on the size of vessel involved. The casualty is guided into the cradle and the outboard end is hauled in. Recovering the casualty in a horizontal position minimizes the risk of reduced blood flow to the upper body and the complications and even death that this can cause. If the casualty has the strength to climb, the outboard end may be lowered into the water to serve as a boarding ladder or scrambling net.
The casualty, when recovered, maybe retained in the cradle and carried ashore using the cradle as a stretcher. The cradle can also be used for recovering casualties at height or in confined spaces, following accidents during rigging, construction, climbing or caving.
